About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2008 with an annual intake of 60 students. It has been increasing steadily over the years due the high standards of teaching and the annual intake is increased to 120 students from 2010 onwards. The department has fully equipped laboratories and other lab to meet the highest academic requirements.

The department has highly experienced faculty with industry and research experience. Most of the faculties are postgraduates and Ph.D; the faculty of the department continues to strive hard for the all-round progress and development of the students.

Faculty members of the department adopt innovative teaching practices and methods of modern pedagogy for effective teaching learning process. Faculty members are specialized in offering consultancy in the areas of concrete material testing, environmental engineering and geo-technical Engineering.

Open elective courses were introduced to widen their horizons of knowledge and to enable students to work on multidisciplinary projects. NPTEL/MOOCs course helps students to improve their self-learning and knowledge and made mandatory for the award of degree.

A good relationship with industry is maintained for the student training, student internships & projects, industrial visits, expert lectures. Every year students will undergo practical training with the various industries. In addition, regular Industrial visits are organized. Students take up internship with the industry from second year. Final year students take up projects in the industry.

The department encourages students to actively participate in extension and outreach activities under NSS unit which includes Swatch Bharat Campaign, Voter registration, Street Cause, Blood Donation Camps, Tree plantation etc.

The institute follows a Proctorial system in which around twenty students are assigned to each faculty. Besides this, personal counselling is given to students through a qualified professional Student Counselor. The consistent academic and other support rendered, has resulted in increased net selections in placements and gradual improvement in average pay package. Performances in competitive exams have also increased resulting in admissions into Higher Educational Institutions both in India and Abroad.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

PEO 1: Graduates shall have the ability to apply knowledge across the disciplines and in emerging areas of Civil Engineering for higher studies, research, employability and handle the realistic problems.

PEO 2: Graduates shall have good communication skills, to possess ethical conduct, sense of responsibility to serve the society, and protect the environment.

PEO 3: Graduates shall have strong foundation in academic excellence, soft skills, managerial skills, leadership qualities and understand the need for lifelong learning for a successful professional career.

Programming Specific Outcome

PSO.1: Civil Engineering graduates shall demonstrate sound knowledge in analysis, design, laboratory investigations and construction aspects of civil engineering infrastructure, along with good foundation in mathematics, basic sciences and technical communication.

PSO.2: Civil Engineering graduates will have a broad understanding of economical, environmental, societal, health and safety factors involved in infrastructural development, and shall demonstrate ability to function within multidisciplinary teams with competence in modern tool usage.

PSO.3: Civil Engineering graduates will be motivated for continuous self-learning in engineering practice and/ or pursue research in advanced areas of civil engineering in order to offer engineering services to the society, ethically and responsibly.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural science and engineering sciences.

3. Design/Development of solutions: Design solution for complex engineering problems and design system components and process that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, cultural society and environmental consideration.

4. Conduct Investigation of Complex Problems: Use research based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6. The Engineering and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge and need for sustainable development.

8. Ethics: Apply ethics principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

HOD Profile

Dr. S. M. Subash is currently working as Professor and Head in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (Autonomous) Hyderabad, India. He received his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Anna University. He completed his Master of Engineering in Infrastructure Engineering and Management, with distinction from Anna University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, and He holds Master’s degree in Business Administration too from University of Madras, Chennai, Tamilnadu. He completed his Bachelors of Engineering, from Anna University, Chennai, Tamilnadu. He has rich experience in Academics as well as in Industry. He worked as a Site Engineer, Interface Engineer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor and Head of the Department. He acts as Chairman of Board of studies, coordinator in NAAC, IQAC, NBA, University Affiliation, NIRF and ARIIA. He is academically active in various civil areas like Use of unclaimed materials in road pavement, Feasibility analysis of route in roadways & railways and Cost Benefit Analysis.

He has published more than 25 technical papers in International journals, 6 Patents (1 Grant), 3 Books and 15 technical papers in conferences. He is well versed and certified in various research tools and software’s like MS Project, ANSYS, Primavera, ARCGIS, ERDAS Imagine and MATLAB. Dr.Subash delivered some lectures related to Transportation Engineering and also delivered more than 50 lectures related to Innovation/Startup/ IPR. He completed five NPTEL Courses with Elite medal and also as a topper in a course called Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence. He attended more than 40 FDP’s, 12 workshops, 6 conferences and 70+ webinars; also he organized more than 20 workshops and seminars too. He acted as a reviewer of international journals and conferences and acted as advisory committee member & chairperson for International/National conferences. He is a life member in The Institutions of Engineers (IE), Institute of Technical Education (ISTE), International Association of Engineers (IAAENG) & IFERP. He guided 50+ projects for UG & PG Students and made them publish their works in well qualified journals and conferences.

Dr. P. Sudha Rani is currently working Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering She completed her Ph.D in Environmental Science from Osmania University, Hyderabad. She completed her Master of Technology in Water and Environmental Technology with Distinction. She completed her bachelors of Science, First Class from Kakatiya University, Warangal, Telangana. Her vast experience in Academics as well as in Research; she has around 20 years of teaching experience and 2years of research experience. She worked as a Junior Project Fellow in Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Tarnaka, Hyderabad for a period of 2 years,Junior Project Fellow in National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur for a period of 1 year.

Dr. Syed Omar Ballari is currently working as a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (Autonomous) in Hyderabad, India. Dr. Omar is specialized in transportation engineering with 18+ years of teaching, research, and consulting experience. He received his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG) and his M.Tech. degree in transportation engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. He has published more than 40 technical papers in international and national journals and conferences. Dr. Omar delivered a good number of invited talks, expert lectures, webinars, and keynote addresses and chaired a valuable number of sessions at various national and international conferences, symposiums, and industry and research organizations. Dr. Omar delivered a number of lectures on the themes of traffic congestion and recent advances in transportation engineering.

Dr. P. Jagadeesan is working as a professor in the department of civil engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He received his Ph.D. degree in civil engineering from Anna University, Chennai. He completed his Master of Technology in structural engineering with distinction. He has 18 years of experience in the teaching field. He had published National Journals 6, International Journals 5, National Conference 7, and International Conference 5. Other publications are 23.

Dr. Raghuveer Narsing is working as an associate professor in the department of civil engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He Has completed B. Tech in civil engineering and he had completed M. Tech. in Highway Engineering and he also completed Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. He also has 10 years of teaching experience and 6 years of research experience. Along with teaching, he has specialization experience in highway engineering. He also published three national journals, three international journals, and six research publications.

Mrs. K. Vijayalakshmi is currently working Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and I B tech Coordinator. She has completed her Bachelor of Technology from Sri Venkateswara university in the year of 1988 and Master of Technology Transportation Engineering with Distinction from JNTUCEH. She has vast experience in Academics as well as in Research; She has around 27 years of teaching experience and 4years of research experience. She is Life Time member in The Institute Of Engineers India. She acted as session chair in various National and international conferences. She organized various workshops in the field of civil engineering. She published books in the field of Transportation Engineering.

Mr. U. Praveen Goud is working as Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He completed his BTECH CE from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, in 2010, MTECH CE with Distinction from Kakatiya University; Warangal in 2014. He has 13 years of total experience in which 6 years in Industries and 7 years in Teaching. He has published 11 international journals and published 2 patents. Mr. Syed Azhar Hussain is working as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He has a postgraduate degree in Master of Engineering in Construction Engineering and Management as well as an M.B.A. in Marketing. He also has 8 years of teaching experience and 22 years and 6 months of industrial experience. He had specialized experience in construction engineering and management. Mr. Rajesh D. V. S. P. is working as an assistant professor in the department of civil engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. Ms. Mamidi Harini Reddy is working as an assistant professor in the department of civil engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. Mrs. K. Deepa is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. She completed her B.Tech CE from SVITS (JNTUH), in 2013, M.Tech (Structural Engineering) with Distinction from VNR VJIET, Hyderabad in 2016, and pursuing Ph.D. in Osmania University. Mrs. A. Kalyani is working as Assistant Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. She completed her M.Tech Structural Engineering with Distinction from Khammam Institute of Technology and Sciences, Khammam in 2016, B.Tech Civil Engineering from Swarna Bharathi College of Engineering, Khammam in 2014. Mr. Bellamkonda Sravan Kumar is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (Autonomous) Hyderabad, India. He received his M. Ms. A. Bhagyalaxmi is working as Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering Department at Gurunanak Institute of Technology Hyderabad. She completed B.Tech Civil from Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technology, IIIT, Basar in 2014, M.E Transportation Engineering at Osmania University in 2018.She is pursuing Ph.D from Osmania university. She has 5 years of teaching experience. Her research areas include Highway Engineering, Pavement Design, Urban Transportation Engineering, and Railway Engineering.

Mrs. Jakkula Sony is working as Assistant Professor of the Department in Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. She completed her M.Tech Structural Engineering with Distinction from Anurag Group of Institutions, Hyderabad in 2019, B.Tech Civil Engineering from TKR Engineering College, Hyderabad in 2017 and Diploma in Civil Engineering from KNPW College, Hyderabad in 2014. Ms. J. Sravani is working as Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering Department at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology since 22-03-2021, Hyderabad. Ms. B. Lathasri is working as Assistant Professor of the Department in Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. Ms. Harika Pinnamshettiis working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. She completed her M.Tech Structural Engineering with Distinction from Global Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad in 2022, B.Tech Civil Engineering from Malla Reddy Institute of Technology and Science, Hyderabad in 2019 and Diploma in Civil Engineering from Vemuganti Manohar Rao Polytechnic, Warangal in 2016. Mr. M. Vamshi Krishnais working as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. The department is well equipped with state-of-art laboratories and infrastructural facilities. The Civil Engineers use the key principles as well as other stock of knowledge in analysis, design, laboratory investigations and construction aspects of civil engineering infrastructure.

1. Surveying Lab

Surveying laboratory equipped with advanced tools like Total Station, Auto Levels, Theodolites and basic apparatus like chains, plane tables and compasses etc. Most of the students were utilized this lab during mini and major projects.

2. Highway Materials and Concrete Technology Lab

Highway materials lab provides facilities for the tests on aggregates, soil and bitumen/binder and bitumen mixes. This lab explains of strength tests in terms of abrasion, attrition and impact for aggregates. The students can briefly understand about properties on aggregates, soil and bitumen.Concrete Technology lab tests explain about construction materials like cement and aggregates properties and performance of concrete under different conditions. This lab gives the idea about quality control for construction of various structures.

3. Geotechnical Engineering Lab

Soil Exploration and testing samples to evaluate Index and Engineering properties of soils. And also have idea to analyze the soil properties with different moisture contents.

4. Strength of Materials Lab

The strength of materials lab consists of high machineries like UTM which is used to test the samples for compression, tension, bending etc. This lab demonstrate the mechanics of material , their analysis for students in series of experiments like hardness, impact , springs test, beam bending etc..

5. Engineering Geology Lab

Engineering geology lab studies related with different rock and mineral identification, measurement of dip and strike of rock formations etc. The students can study further, development of cracks, fissures in rocks, their causes and their remedies. Geological maps help to study this entire concept.

6. Hydraulics & Hydraulic Machinery Lab

This lab deals about fluid flow behavior, forces and analysis with high machineries like turbines, venturimeter, orifice meter, centrifugal pumps, notches, open channels etc. This is lab helpful for students to study various laws, equations, theorems of fluids.

7. Computer Aided Design Lab

CAD lab is very helpful in study, design and draws the various civil engineering structures. The various software’s like AutoCAD for drafting Staad pro for design and analysis, Primavera for construction Management, Revit for building information Modelling, ETABS for design and analysis, SAP for design and analysis of structures, Arc GIS for surveying etc; are installed in this lab. Most of the students utilize this lab during mini and major projects

8. Environmental Engineering Lab

This lab helps in study of pollution existed and prevention in air &water. The students are given awareness about the dangerous effects of environmental pollution and also able to suggest how to reduce the pollution by testing water based on experiments like BOD, COD, PH, Turbidity, Hardness etc..

Celebration Activity on National Pollution Control Day by Prof.K.Vijayalakshmi
The Department of Civil Engineering scheduled Industrial visit on 25th-February-2023 with 60 students of second years to Ready Mix Concrete Plant, Kongara kalan at Hyderabad in Telangana. Technical exposure to Ready Mix Concrete Plant by showing and explaining about Different types of Cement, Admixtures and Different types of laboratory tests carried by different machineries, Different Grades of Concrete & Different types of Mix Proportions which used in construction as per the clients requirements.

The Department of Civil Engineering scheduled Industrial visit on 13th-April-2023 with 60 students of second years to National Institute of Geo-Informatics Science & Technology (Survey of India), at Uppal, Hyderabad in Telangana. This visit included Technical Exposure by explaining and showing working of various instruments such as Theodolite, EDM, Remote sensing & GIS, Importance of Mapping and Collecting data from Photographs using drones.
