Industrial Visit to Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) Hyderabad

The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), GNIT organized one day Industrial visit on 11th of July 2014 for B.Tech 3rd year Engineering students to the prestigious Research Institute Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Hyderabad , the power house of the Indian electrical industry which was set up in 1960 by the Government of India and functions as a centre for applied research in electrical power engineering assisting the electrical industry in product development and quality assurance. CPRI also serves as an independent authority for testing and certification of power equipment. . With its head office located at Bangalore, the Institute has six state-of-the-art infra-structure facilities at Bhopal, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Noida, Kolkata and Guwahati.

Class-in-charge, Mr.T.Manidhar,Asst.Prof. , teaching faculty of EEE Ms.Saritha and Mr.Sriram accompanied the students during this industrial visit.

A total of 63 students undertook an industrial visit and got a chance to visit Power level lab which consists of Cascaded transformer 2 X 800 kV (Total rating is 1600 kV , 9600 KVA) . They also visited 5 MV, 500 kJ 25 stages 23 meters height to carryout Lightning and switching impulse tests on air gaps & electrical equipment insulation. In addition to this , they saw Mock-up towers, Corona, radio interference and audible noise measurement in experimental transmission line, experimental transmission line of 720 m length, divided into central suspension span which facilitates the study of radio noise, audible noise, corona loss etc.

Students Opinion:
It was a great experience to visit CPRI,Hyderabad where we had learned so many new things in the field of Electrical Engineering. They are successful enough to balance between Theoretical and Practical Subject. - AshaRani.

The journey to CPRI unfolded various aspect of the High Voltage Engineering and Testing division. Starting from the Insulators, conductors, to the massive structure of Transformers which form the backbone of the Power Systems. The gains or the take away from the visit were splendid. - Sucharitha

BHEL Industrial Visit Report

The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), GNIT organized a one day Industrial visit to BHEL, India's largest engineering and manufacturing company of its kind engaged in the design, engineering, manufacture, construction, testing, commissioning and servicing of a wide range of products, systems and services for the core sectors of the economy, viz. Power Transmission, Industry, Transportation, Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas and Defence. The industrial visit was organized on 05th of July 2014 for B.Tech 4th year Engineering students. Class-in-charge, Asst.Prof. Mr.V.David, teaching faculty of EEE, Mr.K.Janardan Rao & Ms.M.Saritha Reddy accompanied the students during this visit. A total of 67 students of class B.Tech. (E.E.E.) went on this industrial visit. After getting down at BHEL , students were briefed about the BHEL by their officials. Students visited the Electrical Machines Laboratory and Turbo machinery Laboratory. Students were elated to see the massive infrastructure of the BHEL and conveyed thanks to the management of GNI for organizing such an informative industrial visit.

TURBO MACHINERY LABORATORY

Students Opinion:
GNIT gave us a golden opportunity to visit the Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) at Hyderabad. It was a great experience to know the Company internally.
- Vaishali.

Visit to the BHEL was an eye-opener. The journey unfolded various aspect of the High Voltage Machineries and Testing division starting from the Insulators, Conductors, to the massive structure of Transformers, turbine and Alternators which forms the backbone of the Power System.
- Rakesh.

The use of high rated Steam Turbines, the step by step process layout, the plan for manufacturing; the vision of always staying ahead were the insights. Lots of testing methods were demonstrated and inculcated. A great learning and an honour to see the invasion of the great Indian Power Research Division.
- Sirisha

It was my first Industrial visit to any manufacturing plant and enjoyed every bit of it. To be a part of such an esteemed organization and having a look through all their process was an intriguing experience after all. -Praneeth Kumar
